While I have many pieces I adore dearly, the one closest to my heart would be the kimono I got married in:

I am also particularly fond of this piece, which was one of my first Taisho purchases:

Which I wear often with a black shusu obi with embroidered tsuzumi, which was a very special gift from my taiko senpai for sewing and costume assistence at the annual taiko concert.

And while I could go on all day posting more kimono, I’ll just post this last one. My ro lily komon:

I first wore this when I was 9 weeks pregnant, we didn’t yet know if we were having a boy or a girl. We had a girl. Her name is Lily

While I have an appreciation for kimono fashion in general my love lies with pre-WWII, with a focus on The Greater Taisho Period, a time spanning 1910 to 1930. I find this particular period saw massive inovation with not only design and colour, but with kitsuke itself.
I collect postcards and photographs from this period of time along with other pre-WWII images that may catch my attention, as I love viewing the different ensembles worn [...]

At long last, we were finally able to attend another kimono day! San Francisco Japantown’s Kimono Days started shortly before I fell pregnant with Lily and we attended a few. But then with life, work, breastfeeding, etc – we had difficulty attending any more until now. This time, in addition to Arian, Lily and myself, I had the pleasure of re-introducing kimono to my friend, Rebecca.
I’ve only recently had the pleasure of Rebecca’s friendship, [...]

We made a very last minute decision to head out to San Jose Obon today to meet up with some friends.
My kimono room is absolute chaos right this moment – with 4 huge boxes of obi blocking my tansu, so with very little time to get dressed – I grabbed what ro I had existing outside of the tansu and got dressed.
Didn’t have time to do anything fancy with my hair, alas, so [...]

Sunday was the last day for us in the city. I had spent all week tossing and turning over what to wear. I really wanted to wear my strange komon / iro tomesode hybrid kimono with feathers and my parrot obi together, but I was at a bit of a loss with accessories. I was originally just going to do classic red, then I thought about lavender.
But then, inspiration hit me — my diaper [...]

After Lily’s nap on Saturday afternoon, I decided to dress in kimono again. Knowing we were going to head out to dinner, I decided to wear a wool ensemble. Baby + food = mess. Wool, at least, is washable in my washing machine!
I figured I’d bust out my ship obi for this ensemble, along with my pink faux shibori haneri as I had been wanting to wear both for a while now. I’m quite [...]

This year, the Cherry Blossom Festival was so much fun! Last year it was difficult as Lily was at an awkward newborn age (10 weeks) and I couldn’t wear kimono long at all due to being a new nursing momma. This year, however, different story!
I ended up wearing three different ensembles over Saturday and Sunday. I’m going to do three different posts as there’s a lot of photos.
Quite a few months ago, I [...]

I am excited to finally have my copy of “The New Kimono – From Vintage Style To Everyday Chic” from the Editors of the Nana-oh Magazine!
I’ve been a fan of the Nana-oh Magazine for years – so it’s rather quite exciting to finally be able to read the articles in English!
A review will be forthcoming in the near future, but in the meanwhile – please feel free to read the review and [...]
